On Friday, October 18, the popular marches from all over Catalonia converged in Barcelona, coinciding with the strike day. The demonstration called by the Tsunami Democràtic platform brought together nearly half a million people peacefully.
At night radical groups clashed with riot units on the Vía Laietana, encircling the Superior Headquarters of the National Police, as well as in the Plaza Urquinaona area for more than six hours, with a balance of 102 wounded (13 policemen) and 27 people arrested.
Nine people were seriously injured (three of the wounded ones lost an eye), while another person was seriously injured by traumatic brain injury. A member of the National Police entered the ICU for a fracture at the base of the skull and the crushing of two vertebrae.
